I have a tendency to complain. My girlfriend is very aware of this, so my dear, thanks for always putting up with my whiny attitude 😉
After recently having a health scare, I realized that I actually have a lot to be thankful for. This is not to say that I’m settling for where I am right this moment, but I mean I have a ton to be grateful for.
April was apparently the “Treat Yo’self” month for me (shoutout to Tom Haverford) and it was LIT in a completely drug/alcohol free way. On April 1st my cousin treated me to Hamilton tickets in SF. If you don’t know, now you know…. that I’m a Hamilton fanatic. The next weekend my girlfriend paid for my trip to visit her in St. Louis, Missouri. We literally ate so much, that the bloodwork I’m getting back next week probably still has St. Louis BBQ fat in it. My coworker after finding out that I was working on my birthday covered my shift at the last second. My roommate bought me a fitbit out of the blue so now I can read texts WHILE working. And then to end the month, I got to go see Chance the Rapper. I mean…. and that’s just this past month.
The last year has been interesting to say the least. I’ve worked at a couple different jobs, struggled to adjust to new work/life rhythms, transitioned from long distance to lllllooooonnnnnngggggg distance, re-allocated time to spend more time with family, and returned to Chick-fil-a “temporarily.”
I’ve met some awesome people everywhere I’ve gone and when I look carefully I can’t help but notice that blessings… keep falling in my lap.
P.S. Did you know, that rap and hip hop music is built upon a concept referred to as sampling. Sampling takes pieces of other previous tracks and incorporates them into a new piece often without explicit citation. Basically stealing and re-appropriation as said by my sampling instructor Sam Li, but still an interesting concept. I may have sampled the Notorious B.I.G. and Chance the Rapper in this post…
But on that note, try googling your favorite rap songs and seeing what the producers of the song sampled. IT’S CRAZY HOW EVERYTHING IS CONNECTED.
